I paint on my own skin so, here, I am painting my torso as a way of exploring gesture. The soundtrack features a new composition by jazz pianist Matthew Shipp. In combining the two, I wanted a film where the moving image makes space for the music, and the sound opens up the image. This dovetails with an aesthetic in jazz where, at times, an instrument steps up and leads and, at others, it supports.
