For years, I’ve been exploring gesture in painting, an act that brings with it the artist’s whole body. In the gallery, I made a painting as a live performance, using my torso instead of a brush. Maybe, just maybe, the traces I leave can hang in the air — like a chorus of ghosts — along with the questions they raise. What are you left with when the performance is over — a painting or a memory of how it was made? And the ghosts, when they sigh, do they also breathe in? Is there friction involved when they rustle around?
